$100,000 birthday present takes the cake

$100,000 birthday present takes the cake

31 July 2020

In March, TAB – in collaboration with Swanky Socks – launched the TAB Sock Stable, stepping out with a range of bold and beautiful socks for sale in the colours of past and present racing greats such as Black Caviar, Winx and Chautauqua.

Not only could punters look good, but they could feel good too knowing that 100% of net profits would go to equine welfare funds Off the Track in Victoria and Team Thoroughbred NSW.

Run by Racing Victoria and Racing NSW respectively, both initiatives rehome and retrain retired racehorses to enjoy a second career in pursuits such as dressage, show jumping, polo, trail riding and equine therapy.

With the socks now sold out and the Socks Stable campaign wrapped, TAB customers have raised a massive $100,000, which fittingly will be handed over tomorrow - August 1, the birthday for all horses.

Based on state-by-state sales, $55,000 will go to Team Thoroughbred NSW and $45,000 to Off the Track.

“This campaign is a great example of our Long May We Play campaign, underpinning the TAB brand. It highlights again that we can be far bigger than just the bet,” Luke Waldren, EGM Customer, Marketing and Product, said.

“We set out with a goal to reach $100,000 in donations and to achieve that in light of the current climate is proof that the welfare of our equine athletes is a topic that our customers are also very passionate about.”
