Tabcorp: 2017 Emirates Melbourne Cup turnover

Cup punters wagered almost $90 million on today’s Emirates Melbourne Cup across the NSW, Victorian and ACT TAB.

The race that stops the nation was won by Rekindling, which paid $16.30 for the win on the NSW TAB and $17.10 on SuperTAB. Rekindling’s final TAB fixed odds price was $15, having opened at $51. The biggest fixed odds bet TAB took today on Rekindling was $3,000 to win $48,000.

Tabcorp’s Chief Operating Officer Wagering and Media Adam Rytenskild said:

“Melbourne Cup day wagering is the culmination of an immense effort across our teams. We have given our customers their chance to be part of the Melbourne Cup experience across 3,000 TAB retail outlets, dozens of racetracks and through our digital platforms.

“On our preliminary figures, total TAB turnover on the Melbourne Cup race was down 5.7%, however turnover on the other nine races at Flemington was up 4.1%. Yields were particularly strong across the meeting.

“We have been having a positive Spring Racing Carnival and this is on the back of our first three months of trading in FY18 in which TAB turnover was up 4.5% on the prior year.

“TAB is also delighted with the remarkable story of a punter from Mill Park, Melbourne who won our Melbourne Cup Millionaire promotion. He successfully chose Rekindling from the field of 23 to run for him for $1 million.”
