Stars align with $100,000 donation
The Lott has fortified its relationship with the Stars Foundation with a $100,000 donation made for the second year running.
With the mission of empowering young Indigenous women in the Northern Territory, Stars Foundation has been working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and girls to close the gap on important health and education outcomes since 2015.
Sponsorship and Community Manager Hans de Koning said he had seen firsthand the importance of the work Stars Foundation carried out.
“We are proud to be supporting the Stars Foundation again in 2021,” he said.
“This is an important program delivering real outcomes for indigenous communities in the Northern Territory.
“I’ve been to the schools with the program, and it’s truly special, and to know that 91% of its 2019 graduates had successfully transitioned into work or further study is really important.
“We have seen that increased education increases the health of the community too, so the difference they are making cannot be underestimated.”
Stars Foundation Chief Executive Officer Andrea Goddard said the $100,000 contribution from The Lott would help more young women participate in its Education Engagement Program.
"Our approach is to work closely with schools, communities, and families to deliver the best possible outcomes for students,” she said.
“The funding support generously provided to us by The Lott will contribute to the ongoing sustainability of our programs in the Northern Territory."
The program boasted some impressive results in 2020 despite the impact of COVID-19, including a 98% year 12 completion rate among the senior students in the program.
